The Principal Deputy County Counsel independently handles complex, high-impact legal matters affecting the County, its officers, boards, and districts. This position provides legal advice and litigation support to the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk (ARCC) as part of the Finance and General Government Team.

The attorney will advise and represent the Assessor in Assessment Appeals Board (AAB) matters, including witness preparation, hearings, proposed findings, and writs of administrative mandate challenging AAB decisions. Additional duties include policy and procedure development, contract review, legislative support, California Public Records Act requests, and records retention.

What You’ll Do:

Manage attorney calendars, meetings, depositions, court dates, and travel
Prepare, proofread, and finalize litigation documents
Organize and maintain case files, exhibits, evidence, and case documentation
Coordinate with clients, experts, witnesses
Handle state, federal, and appellate e-filing and court submissions
Track deadlines and ensure compliance with all court rules and procedures
Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion

What You Bring:

5+ years litigation legal administrative assistant experience
Strong knowledge of California state, federal, and appellate court procedures and e-filing
Solid litigation document prep and terminology knowledge
Advanced computer skills
Strong proofreading, formatting, and attention to detail
Highly organized, dependable, and professional under pressure
Strong communication and discretion
