The County of San Diego Office of County Counsel has an immediate vacancy for Senior Deputy County Counsel - Juvenille Dependency

This position works in the Juvenile Dependency Division of the Office of County Counsel and represents the Health and Human Services Agency in all juvenile dependency matters. In addition, this position performs legal research, prepares legal documents, and is responsible for providing legal advice on child welfare investigations, litigating juvenile dependency cases and handling juvenile dependency matters on appeal.

Candidates require knowledge of legal principles, research, and trial techniques; applicable state and federal laws and court procedures; key County codes and regulations; professional communication and customer service standards; use of legal and office technology; and current trends in the legal field.

The ability to analyze and resolve legal issues, manage trial and appellate cases, and effectively interpret and communicate complex legal matters is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong advocacy, research, and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education, training, or experience demonstrating the necessary legal competencies, including active membership in the State Bar of California and at least three years of post-bar civil legal experience. Experience with public entities, including advising boards, handling public litigation, and drafting ordinances, policies, and contracts, is preferred.

Annual salary range with benefits: $150,051 - $182,416.
