    The Oakland City Attorney’s Office seeks a well-qualified individual to join our office’s labor & employment advisory unit. The incumbent will be exposed to a wide range of personnel matters across a variety of City’s departments, with an emphasis on police personnel matters including accountability and public-safety reform.

    Duties will include, but will not be limited to: working collaboratively with other attorneys, City staff, and City leadership to analyze labor and employment issues and resolve disputes; advising City investigators and Department heads on employee-misconduct, due process, and related grievances, including advising on police-officer investigations and discipline; representing the City in administrative hearings to resolve labor and/or employment disputes; drafting and reviewing opinions, legislation, contracts and other legal documents which require the application of labor law and/or employment law.

    This position is represented by International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, Local 21. The incumbent may receive general supervision from a Deputy City Attorney V, Special Counsel, Chief Assistant City Attorney or the City Attorney. The City Attorney may assign the selected attorney to new, additional or different duties or practice areas in litigation, advice or transactional work.

    The Deputy Civil Rights Director for UCLA Health/1557 Co-Coordinator ("DCRD") represents the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Civil Rights ("AVC-CR") and the UCLA Civil Rights Office on program, policy and legal issues related to UCLA Health (UCLA health system and the David Geffen School of Medicine [DGSOM]), the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center, and other programs and activities involving clinical care (together, the "Health Enterprise"). The DCRD reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Civil Rights and works closely with the Title IX Director and Deputy TIX Director, the Discrimination Prevention Office Director, the Staff Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity Compliance Office Director and the ADA/504 Officer (collectively referred to as the "Civil Rights Office Leadership Team") to build strong relationships across the Health Enterprise and with other stakeholders to promote compliance with Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and ADA/504 and related laws and to achieve systemwide objectives.

    $102,500 - $227,700 Annually, with salary placement based on skills, knowledge, and experience.

    The City of Huntington Beach offers a truly unique opportunity for experienced California municipal attorneys, as it is one of the few cities with an elected City Attorney. The Chief Litigation Counsel leads the City’s trial and litigation efforts in all civil lawsuits, either for prosecution of or in the defense, on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach, and works with other attorneys who are litigating cases on behalf of the City.

    Minimum of five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in the litigation and trying of cases in the State of California with a minimum of taking lead role in five (5) jury and three (3) bench trials to verdict in Superior Court. Learn more
